Our sunny heroes

Direct sunlight plants for every room

For sunny kitchens and bathrooms, our more tropical plants such as Anthuriums, Strelitzia and Pachira aquatica will thrive. These plants love moist, humid conditions, so will enjoy living in steamy spaces that get lots of natural light. If you’re seeking office plants for direct light, we recommend opting for one of our (almost) unkillables, such as a Snake plant, succulent or cactus – they’ll help to increase productivity and create a sense of calm without the upkeep of a fussy plant, perfect for a room that requires focus. For flow, movement and serenity, look to orchids, Caryota mitis and Fiddle-leaf figs – they’re the perfect plants for a living room with direct light, or an east-facing bedroom that gets morning sunshine.

Unkillable sun-loving plants

Direct sunlight can present a challenge for plant parents: the more light your plant receives, the drier the soil will be, which means they’ll often require more watering than most. The good news is there are plenty of unkillable plants for direct sunlight that thrive on neglect, and make great options for beginners or hands-off plant owners. Cacti are classic examples – these hardy plants live in arid conditions in the wild, and so are used to living in bright, sunny spaces with little rainfall. Sansevierias and succulents are also great options that will happily live in bright light and are extremely low maintenance.

Bright light plants in every size

However small or large your space, you’ll find a plant that fits in our collection. Perhaps you have a sunny windowsill or shelf that’s looking a little lacklustre? Perk it up with one of our small indoor plants that like direct sunlight – a miniature succulent or cacti would be perfect here. For empty corners or rooms with lots of floor space, try a tall direct sunlight plant such as a Strelitzia, Fiddle-leaf fig or Yucca – these sunseekers are big on impact, adding life to dull spaces.

Child- and pet-safe plants for direct sunlight

If your household is home to little fingers and curious paws, you may want to seek out a leafy friend that’s safe for all the family. A lot of sun-loving plants are toxic if ingested, so our direct sunlight child and pet safe plants are great ways to incorporate greenery. Pachira aquatica, Bromeliads and Musa ‘Dwarf Cavendish’ are all cat, dog and child safe plants that like direct sunlight, making them great options for adding leafy greenery while ensuring peace of mind. If you’re particularly taken with a sun-loving plant that isn’t pet-safe, don’t worry – simply keep it out of reach, or in a room they rarely go in.
