If you want a big, statement plant but don’t have room for one that spreads out, Phil is a great option. He’s a Philodendron scandens, a fast-growing climber that’s been trained up a moss pole to create a dramatic, vertical plant. He’s great for adding life to awkward nooks, narrow corners and cosy meeting rooms.
Phil is a pretty easy plant to take care of, as long as you give him the right light and water. You can also give him a growth boost by feeding him with liquid fertiliser once per month in spring and summer. To help his leaves stay fresh, try grouping him with other plants of different sizes – not only will this create an interesting focal feature in your space, but they’ll help each other by creating a mini humid microclimate.
