  • Found dwelling in the damp, dark corners of swamps and forests in South and central America, the West Indies and Africa, Boston ferns – like most ferns – love shady, hot and humid conditions. It’s little wonder they were such a popular houseplant in the Victorian times, when they would have thrived in the poorly lit, damp homes of the 1800s.

The main thing to remember when caring for Boston ferns is that they don’t like to dry out. Frequent watering – whenever the top inch of soil is dry – will keep Bertie’s soil lightly moist. He loves humidity, so keep him in a steamy spot, such as a bathroom or kitchen, or group him with other plants to make a mini microclimate. Although his fronds look fun to touch, try to resist – he’s not one for physical contact, and it might turn his lovely leaves brown.

This bundle includes our much-loved Ceramic glazed pot in Cream. It’s hand-moulded and finished with a special glaze that crackles as it’s fired, leaving it with a fine, cracked effect (don’t worry, it’s surface detail and doesn’t impact the structure of the pot).

When watering your plants, always remove them from the decorative pot first and allow any excess water to drain completely before putting the plant back in the pot. Due to the nature of the material, excess water may escape.
