Bring a slice of the Mediterranean to your outdoor space with this little lemon tree. Despite hailing from warmer climes, it’s one of the few citrus trees that will produce fruit in a British climate, which is great news for us.
Look after Vivi well, and you’ll be rewarded with lemons from summer until early autumn. Fortunately, this won’t take too much effort on your part – just keep her in a sunny spot, make sure her soil stays lightly moist, and give her a feed once per month in spring and summer. When her fruit appears, don’t be worried if they look green to begin with – they will ripen after a bit of time in the sun. Not every fruit will reach maturity, as it will put energy into just a few at a time – when you spot a ripe one, snip it off so you can enjoy it and Vivi can focus on growing more.
Vivi is a fair weather tree and doesn’t like being out in the cold. Once the sunny season is over, bring her inside for winter (when the temperature goes below 10°C) until the weather starts to warm up again in May or June.
This bundle comes with our Reservoir pot. Made by Elho, this clever design has a hidden reservoir that stores extra water, which helps to stop your plant from drying out. There’s no need to repot your Vivi – just pop her in her nursery pot straight into the decorative pot. If you do choose to replant your citrus tree, or if it’s time to repot – every 2 to 3 years – be sure to use a loam-based compost such as John Innes No.3.
