The Chinese Money plant was first brought to the UK in 1906 by a man named George Forrest, and has been a popular houseplant ever since. Native to the Yunnan and Sichuan provinces of southern China, it’s much-loved for its simple care requirements and easy ability to propagate – not to mention, according to Chinese legend, its power to bring good fortune to its owners.
We call ours Penny, after her coin-shaped leaves, but she’s also known as a UFO plant, Pancake plant and Pass-it-on plant. Whatever you call yours, you’ll find she’s an easy going housemate who asks very little of you. She likes a bright spot, and a drink once her soil has run dry. If you’re feeling generous, give her a feed with liquid fertiliser (diluted to half strength) once per month in spring and summer. This is a great pet-friendly plant for beginners.
This set includes our classic Rope basket, a tactile design that works with any home. When watering your plants, always remove them from the decorative pot first and allow any excess water to drain completely before putting the plant back in the pot.
