    • Claudia likes Light watering

She’s not a big drinker. If the top two inches of her soil feel dry it’s time for a drink. She’ll forgive irregular watering.

    • Claudia likes Bright light

She’ll be ok in medium light, but she’ll be really happy in quite a sunny spot. She’s not one for shade.

    • Claudia likes Humidity

She loves moisture in the air. She’ll enjoy a bright bathroom or kitchen and some fresh air in summer.

  • If you want to jazz up your indoor jungle, Claudia will add colour, pattern and movement. The vibrant pink, satiny textured leaves of Tradescantia ‘Pink Paradise’ alternate along its fleshy stems which will trail over the edge of your pot, making it perfect for a shelf or hanging pot. In the right conditions it’s fast growing and easy to propagate. If you ever want to trim those long stems, just snip them back to just above a pair of leaves with some clean, sharp secateurs

Native to Mexico, Tradescantias have become popular houseplants all over the world because they’re very easy to care for: bright light, regular watering; done. In spring and summer, give yours a feed with liquid fertiliser to keep it growing well, and if you’re lucky, you’ll be rewarded with some surprisingly delicate purple flowers.

It’s best to water Claudia from below by sitting the nursery pot in a bowl or sink of water until the top of its soil is just moist. Let it drain completely before popping it back in its nursery pot. Its succulent-like stems and leaves hold on to water so you only need to hydrate it when the top two inches of soil are dry. Dip your finger into the soil to test the moisture level, or test the weight of the nursery pot to see how heavy it is – if it feels very light, it likely needs a drink.

    Did you know?

In the wild Tradescantia zebrina is a ground cover that puts down roots from the nodes on its stems as it sprawls.
