• About Sedum morganianum 'Burrito'

  Hailing from Mexico but happy as a houseplant, this characterful succulent has masses of tiny tear-shaped leaves that spiral around its trailing stems. This clever desert plant has evolved to store water in its leaves over periods of drought and reflect the harsh sun by taking on a cool grey-green colour. It’s particularly attractive in a hanging pot from which its stems can trail down freely without being knocked. 

  With good plant parentage you might well be rewarded with a surprising flush of red flowers that burst from the ends of the stems in late summer. 

  Repotting Bob is a delicate affair because his fleshy little leaves are likely to ping off all over the place. We do recommend you brave it and pot him up a size at least every couple of years. Use a free draining desert mix. He’s also very easy to propagate, either by a stem cutting or by resting any of his little leaves on some soil until they take root.   ‘Burrito’ or ‘Burro’ is the Spanish word for ‘little donkey’, an affectionate name for this sedum that resembles the shaggy tail of these hardy mammals. Ha, and you thought it meant 🌯!
