    • Regular watering

Keep Teddy’s soil lightly moist. The brighter the spot he’s in, the more often you’ll need to check on his moisture levels. You can lighten up in winter.

    • Bright light

Teddy likes light and would be happiest in a bright room. Too much bright direct light might scorch his leaves though, so you’ll need to find his sweet spot.

    • Humidity

Teddy is a tropical plant that enjoys the humid side of life. Group him together with your other houseplants so that they can create their own little moist microclimate.

  • Teddy the Orange Spider plant is related to Chris the Curly Spider plant, but he has a very different character. His bright green leaves are broader at the base and taper to an arrow-like point and his stems are a vivid mandarin orange. This makes him striking to look at, which is captured in his cultivar name ‘Fire Flash’.

In the right conditions Teddy will grow quite quickly but to encourage his growth and keep his soil nutrients topped up it’s a good idea to give him some houseplant food once a month from April through to October. After about two years you might need to give him some more space and improve his soil structure, so consider repotting him into a slightly larger pot and into fresh compost.

Like Chlorophytum comosum, the common Spider plant, this species is also sensitive to hard tap water, which can make the tips of their leaves go brown and crispy. If possible, water your plant with rain or filtered water. Unlike the common Spider plant, this guy isn’t as tolerant of shade and cooler temperatures so keep him warm and well lit.

There are over 200 species of Spider plant, some of which reach heights over a metre.
