    • Regular watering

Give your Camellia a drink before it dries out completely, they like their soil moist.

    • Most light conditions

Camellias prefer a sheltered spot and are happiest in partial to deep shade.

    • Feeding

If you’re growing it in a pot, feed your Camellia with an ericaceous (acid loving) fertiliser a few times throughout the year to promote healthy green growth and flowering.

  • Bringing joy to the world when we most need it, this spring flowering Camellia is one of the more tasteful cultivars around. Rather than the typical bright pink or red blossoms that we associate with these shrubs, the flowers of ‘Jury’s Yellow’ are a tasteful combination of white and pale creamy yellow. An outer skirt of open petals frames a ruffled centre of petaloids that together decorate the dark green leaves of this hardy, evergreen shrub with decadence. This early spring flowering prolongs the interest in your garden throughout the year, when everything else has died back over winter.

The upright, slow growing habit of this Camellia makes it perfect for growing in a pot and ideal for city and courtyard gardens, particularly those that are overshadowed by neighbouring buildings where more sun-loving plants might struggle. While it can stay in its nursery pot for a couple of years, we recommend planting it out into a larger decorative pot. Even so, Simone will need repotting to top up her nutrients and when the time comes be sure to use ericaceous potting compost that is suitable for acid loving plants. Planted up into the wrong compost might result in yellowing, nutrient-deficient looking leaves.

Camellias can handle temperatures down to -15 degrees celsius but aren’t fans of dry, cold winds, which can burn their precious petals. Although it's unlikely to need pruning until it’s mature enough, if your Camellia williamsii ‘Jury’s Yellow’’ has grown too big for your space, cut back its branches after it’s flowered in mid/late Spring. This will give it the whole of the summer season to recover and put on fresh new growth.

    Did you know?

We call flowers with this dense ruffled interior ‘doubles’. The inside ‘petaloid’ part of the flower is made up of stamens (which usually hold the pollen) that have transformed into petal-like structures. This makes them all the more showy!
