For luscious foliage and beautiful flowers, you can’t beat a Peace lily. We call ours Pippa, but she’s also known as White Sails or, botanically, Spathiphyllum wallisii. Her common names refer to her pretty flowers, which are made up of a spathe (the white bit) and a spadix (the middle bit, which is actually hundreds of tiny flowers).
In the wild, you’ll find Pippa growing in the tropical rainforests of central and South America, which gives you a good idea of the conditions she’s used to. She absolutely loves humidity, so try to keep her in a steamy room, or group her with other plants to create a microclimate. Her other needs are modest – she’s very relaxed about light conditions (though her preference is indirect light) and only needs watering when the top two inches of soil feel dry. She’ll let you know if she’s thirsty – if her leaves are looking a little wilted, it’s time for a drink.
We’ve paired Pippa with our bestselling black Bubble pot, which has wavy edges and a smooth glossy finish.
When watering your plants, always remove them from the decorative pot first and allow any excess water to drain completely before putting the plant back in the pot. Due to the nature of the material, excess water may escape.
