One of the few flowering houseplants available, Anthurium are loved for their brightly coloured bracts, which in the case of Felicity, is the vivid pink part of her 'flower'. You won't believe it but this colourful, waxy flag-like structure is actually a modified leaf that has evolved to attract insects. The actual flowers are minute, and dozens of them can be found clustered around the tiny spike that sticks up out the middle. In short, Anthuriums have mastered the art of seduction.
A useful way to think about how to care for your plant is to consider where it comes from, and in the case of Anthurium andraeanum, it's natural home is the rainforests of South America and the Caribbean, where it can be found growing up in the branches or at the base of larger trees. That means it’s used to getting dappled light, rather than direct sun, and regularly getting soaked by rainfall.
In your home, that means you want to position Felicity somewhere that gets bright indirect light, and that's warm and draught free. It also means making sure her soil is kept lightly moist and that her leaves are kept clean from dust. Consider giving her a regular shower under room temperature water. This will help to dislodge any pests too! To help her grow lots of healthy new green leaves and to encourage flowering, give Felicity some houseplant food once a month throughout spring and summer.
