Celebrating 10 years of Patch

Ten years ago, our founder thought it would be fun to start a plant company on April Fool’s Day. Turns out it wasn't a joke, but a serious mission to demystify plants and make gardening easy for everyone. A decade later, we're proud to have delivered more than 2.5 million plants to over 700,000 customers, bringing high-quality greenery and easy-to-follow care advice to plant parents across the UK.

We’ve brought you some stand-out plants along the way – from the weird and wonderful Carl the Coral cactus to the pale pink leaves of Zoe the Caladium ‘Spring Fling’ – but there’s also been a reliable line-up of classic, low-maintenance plants that Patch customers can always count on to enjoy greenery with minimal effort. In honour of our 10th birthday, we’re shining a light on the OGs who’ve helped us grow.

Big Ken

Plant numero uno, Big Ken was how Patch all began. Though he’s native to the east coast of Australia, he’s just as happy hanging out in our homes in the UK, making him one of the best for island vibes and low maintenance. He was our very first frond, and has continued to bring Big Kenergy to Patch fans for 10 years. Long may he reign.

Rapunzel

She may be the princess of Patch, but Rapunzel isn’t one for royal treatment. A Golden pothos, or Devil’s ivy, she’s one of the most easy-going plants in our collection, rewarding you with flowing fronds for very little effort. A dream hanging plant for beginners or those who are looking for something a little more low-maintenance, she’s a real plant of the people.

Susie

The original Unkillable, Susie is the strongest plant in our collection. She’s a Snake plant, or Sansevieria, and requires very little attention. In fact, she thrives on neglect, and the best way to keep her alive is to leave her alone. She needs minimal watering and will manage in almost any light condition (except total darkness). She’s basically the dream plant.

Chaz

The big cheese! The holey grail! But you can call him Chaz. This leafy legend is a Monstera deliciosa, or Swiss Cheese plant, and his iconic holey leaves have made him a firm favourite among plant fans for generations. As a houseplant, he’s pretty easy to look after, bringing luscious greenery with minimal effort.

Sharon

For easy, breezy island vibes, you can’t beat Sharon. The Victorians loved her – hence her common name, Parlour palm – and so do we. Pet friendly? Tick. Basically unkillable? Tick. Practically perfect in every way? Tick, tick, tick.

Howard

A Cast iron plant in name and nature, Howard's leafy fronds may look elegant but he's far from precious. He's one of the toughest plants out there, which makes him a firm favourite among plant fans. He’s also non-toxic, so a great option for households with little fingers and curious paws.
