Chamomile to calm you, mint to help ease your digestion and echinacea for your peace of mind. These versatile plants can be grown in anything from a window box to pots or a raised bed. You can sow them into seed trays or directly onto the soil where you want them to grow. Sow them any time from spring through to autumn, just make sure you’re sowing them onto moist, free-draining soil in a warm spot. You’ll find more specific sowing instructions on the packaging.
Once you’ve grown these, all the hard work is done. Because they’re perennial plants they’ll come back year after year. They may die back a bit over winter but don’t worry, as soon the light levels increase and it warms up in spring, they’ll start growing again. If you’re growing them under cover from rain or in pots, don’t forget to water them even through winter. A regular dose of plant food once a month from April to October will help them bulk up and get all the nutrients they need for healthy growth.
Whether you pick fresh leaves or dry them, each of these plants makes a delicious brew that’s good for you.
