• About Parlour palms

  In the wild, you’ll find this plant growing primarily in Mexico and Guatemala, but it’s been beloved as an indoor plant around the world since Victorian times. For Victorians, the parlour was the best room in the house, where you would receive your fanciest visitors and display your fanciest possessions. This exotic palm in your parlour would suggest you were worldly and sophisticated, hence the name Parlour palm.

  We’re all a bit less formal these days, but a Parlour palm still brings simple elegance to any room and it’s really easy to care for. It will tolerate low light and infrequent watering, but as with any plant, you’ll get better results if you treat them well. It will also appreciate a feed with liquid fertiliser once per month in spring and summer.

  I have always admired these but never got round to owning one until recently. I found it on Patch and it was delivered to me in a few days in a well packaged box. The handling of the plant from dispatch to delivery had been so careful. It arrived with lush green leaves and I had a perfect spot for it in the house. One word of warning, never put it outside. Someone put mine out in the sun unknown to be and after a few days I found the leaves had turned white and was ruined. With some assistance form the shop and you tube, I repotted and cut the white leaves back to the new growths that were trying to get through It is alot smaller now but at least it was saved from the compost heap.
