Axel likes to bathe in full sunlight so make sure you choose a spot that receives direct afternoon sun.
He works well as a windshield for other plants around him so don't be afraid of placing him on a gusty spot.

Phormium actually originates from New Zealand. Over the course of a decade, he can grow up to 1.5m tall and wide. His impressive swordlike leaves have the most delicate red border to them which looks stunning in the evening light.
Available in a few colours, it looks great potted up on a patio or balcony, but you can also plant it directly in the ground. It likes a spot that gets at least a few hours of sun and doesn't mind shielding other plants from gusty winds. It’s very undemanding, just asking that you water it every now and again.
