    • Well drained soil

Cubby is happy in practically any site as long as it drains well so if you're planting him in a pot make sure you use some drainage material at the bottom - follow our easy step-by-step instructions on how to plant up your outdoor plants here.

    • Most light conditions

If planted in a pot, make sure you water him regularly in the warmer, summer months - the elements should take care of the rest in the cooler autumn and winter months.

  • Look carefully and you'll find Cubby dotted around a number of London's gardens, thanks to his beautiful colouring and easy-to-maintain habit. This evergreen shrub is full of glossy, variegated leaves and can produce small purple flowers in spring and summer, followed by dark berries. It's a slow grower, but with time can become a substantial.

Cubby looks great planting out into the garden or into a pot. Your plant will arrive in a nursery pot (the plastic pot it’s been growing in). If you don't want it to grow much bigger then there’s no need to remove it from this. Just place the whole thing inside a decorative pot and enjoy. Because the nursery pot is quite a tight fit, keep an eye on watering, and don't forget to re-pot it every couple of years to top up the nutrients - growing is hungry work. The bigger you want your shrub to grow, the bigger the pot you should plant it into, in the ground it will have free range!

    Happy plant parenting!
