Our top 5 outdoor pots and planters

Fibrestone cylinder pot

These fibrestone pots give the impression of stone, but are in fact much, much lighter. So if you’re prone to changing your mind on where your plants live, they’re easy to pick up and move to a new spot. This also makes them a great choice for those places where you need to think about weight, like balconies. Try planting classic leafy plants such as Vivi and Laura for an elegant look and feel.

Reservoir pot

Our reservoir pots are made with 100% recycled materials, and they’re recyclable too. These pots are an ingenious choice for forgetful waterers, as they have a clever built-in reservoir that holds an extra bit of water so your plant won’t dry out. Your plant can suck up the water from the reservoir, but it won’t sit in it, so there’s no danger of flooding the roots. They’d be perfect for outdoor plants that prefer dry soil, like Mae and Yasmin.

Fibrestone trough

These elegant troughs help you create brimming window boxes, micro wildflower meadows and herb gardens. Much like the cylindrical pot, these troughs are very light, so you won’t have to worry too much about the strength of your windowsill.   These pots don’t come with drainage holes built in, so we‘d recommend carefully drilling holes to allow excess water to drain off. Once you’ve done this, try sowing your own wildflowers or herbs.

Loft pot

These stylish recycled pots bring a pop of colour to your outdoor space. Like our reservoir pot, they’re made from 100% recycled materials, and carry a built-in reservoir to store excess water. There’s also a drainage hole to make sure your plants don’t get waterlogged. Plants that prefer dry soil like Sandy and Helena will love living in these pots.

Concrete ridge pot

Perfectly marrying form and function, this concrete pot has a clean, classic design which lets your plants do all the talking. This pot is made of stern stuff (tough concrete to be precise), so it’ll stand up to even the harshest weather conditions.

These pots don’t have drainage holes built in, so we‘d recommend carefully drilling holes to allow excess water to drain off. Just make sure the holes are at least 1 inch from the edge of the pot and 2 inches from one another.

What size outdoor pot or planter do I need?

All Patch plants arrive in nursery pots, which are practical, but they're not very pretty. That's why you put your plants in a decorative pot, which are much more attractive, and helps the personality of your plant shine.

We have decorative outdoor plant pots and planters in all kinds of different colours and materials. Whether you want a planter for your window box, or something dramatic for your balcony, we've got you covered. Finding the right size pot couldn’t be easier. On each plant’s page, we’ll tell you exactly which size pot your plant needs and suggest some you might like.

How do I water my outdoor plant?

The best way to ensure your plant is happy in your outdoor space is to ensure your decorative pot or planter has the correct drainage. If your pot doesn’t come with drainage holes built in, we would recommend carefully drilling holes to allow excess water to drain off. When drilling the holes, make a mark on the area you wish to drill. Using a 1/2 inch drill bit either make a single hole in the centre of the base or three holes in a triangular arrangement. Holes should be at least 1 inch from the edge of the pot and 2 inches from one another.

Taking these steps will make sure your plant stays happy and healthy in your outdoor space. When you water your plant, you want the soil to be lightly moist, not soggy. What you don't want is water sitting in the bottom of the decorative pot. Plants don't like to sit in water as it can cause their roots to rot.
