We’re supporting Furnishing Futures this March
In March, we celebrate Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, offering the chance to celebrate and honour the women who inspire and support us, as well as shine a light on the important work of women’s charities who strive to create a better future for women. We’re delighted to be supporting Furnishing Futures, a charity that creates healing homes for women and children who have escaped domestic abuse and been placed in empty social housing. Throughout March, we’ll be donating £1 for every sale of two of our best-selling plants: Rachel and Rachel in glass.
About Furnishing Futures
Founded by Emily Wheeler, a former social worker and interior designer, Furnishing Futures creates trauma-informed, fully furnished healing homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse who are placed in empty social housing or living with furniture poverty, and who have experienced multiple disadvantages and trauma.
Furniture poverty is a devastating issue for more than 14 million people in the UK, and is a problem that is literally hidden behind closed doors. Less than 2% of social housing comes furnished. For vulnerable women and children fleeing domestic abuse, being placed into empty social housing leaves them feeling worthless and compounds their trauma. Buying
essential items is also a leading cause of debt for vulnerable families, keeping them in poverty. Despite this, 22 million pieces of furniture end up in landfill every year, much of which is in new or as new condition. This is why Furnishing Futures exists – a sustainable solution to two unsustainable problems.
How you can help
You can help support Furnishing Futures’s vital work by donating directly to the charity, fundraising through action-based challenges, or visiting The Atrium, a shop and events space where you can attend wellbeing workshops and talks, or shop a curated edit of furniture and homeware, with all of the money going directly to the charity.
