About Beryl

Beryl is a real beauty, who loves nothing more than to spread out in a damp, shady spot in the garden. No doubt about it, Beryl is your girl for those hard-to-plant spots.

Details

Current height: 40-50cm
Nursery pot diameter: 17cm

The golden shield fern is semi-evergreen, meaning it loses its leaves for a very short period while new ones regenerate. It is a robust variety of fern, happy in many different sites - be they sunny, shady, sheltered or windy. Will grow up to 15cm per year.

Likes

Happiest in cool, shady spots but will also grow in full sun but will require more watering if so.

Dislikes

Being kept thirsty. It's hard to overdo it with Beryl - she loves the sauce.

Looking after this plant

Did I mention watering? Remove dead or damaged leaves as necessary.

We recommend planting one Beryl every 20cm (i.e. three would fit neatly in a 60cm long trough). If she's to be planted in one of our troughs, she'll need one of these 20L bags of multi-purpose compost.

Living with pets and children

Non-toxic.
