About Cubby

Look carefully and you'll find Cubby dotted around a number of London's gardens, thanks to his beautiful colouring and easy-to-maintain habit. He's a good all-rounder who tolerates full sun to full shade, but is particullary happy in part sun, part shade.

Current height including plastic pot - Big Cubby -100-120cm; Little Cubby - 40-50cm

Evergreen shrub full of glossy 'variegated' leaves. Can produce small purple flowers in Spring and Summer, followed by dark berries. A slow grower, rising by under 10cm per year.

Cubby is happy in practically any site as long as it drains well so if you're planting him in a pot make sure you use some drainage material at the bottom - follow our easy step-by-step instructions on how to plant up your outdoor plants here.

Too much sunlight - Cubby will be happier without being in the sun all day long.

Looking after this plant

If Big Cubby is to be planted in one of our 40cm pots, he'll need one of these 50L bags of multi-purpose compost whilst Little Cubby will fit perfectly in one of our 30cm pots planted with 25L of compost. Then leave him to it and enjoy the view!

If planted in a pot, make sure you water him regularly in the warmer, summer months - the elements should take care of the rest in the cooler autumn and winter months!

Living with pets and children

Non-toxic but don't attempt to eat his berries.
